User Reviews Bialetti Cappuccino Machine

I purchased this a week ago to “substitute” for my large espresso machine that did not travel with me to my dads place. What an awesome product! Read the directions and follow fill guidelines to make a majestic cup of capp. or latte!
I’m using it on a electric stove right now – takes about 8 minutes – and I can “walk away” (not too far though) as the sound of the frothing (happens right at the end) reminds me that my delight is ready. (For those with a sweeter tooth, add a little sugar in your beverage cup before pouring in.)
On that note, while it says makes 2 servings, for those of us using cappuccino or good sized coffee mugs, fills up 1 (only 1) just perfectly (not 2, which refers to smaller serving size).
That would be the only draw back I can think of actually. If you are making full coffee mug sized portions for more than one person, the unit gets extremely hot (bottom portion, not so much the top glass part) and it would take time to cool off before you can unscrew and refill before making another round. (Manufacturers instructions say not to put hot unit under cold water – extreme temps. may neg. affect unit)
I’m thrilled with this product, it exceeded my expectations. E-Z to use. E-Z to clean. Love love love it!
(I paid $99 at William Sonoma, think I saw it on the internet for $89 with free shipping somewhere, so, as always, do your research before buying! Oh, also, saw a “cow” version – same manufacturer – wonder if top is see through on that one? … Really like being able to see what’s going on… that way if you overfill you can catch your mistake and catch overflow before it gets all over the stove… not that I’m speaking from experience or anything… do definitely follow fill guidelines! LOL!)
Hope this was helpful!
espresso :To pod or not to Pod that is the question?
OK I got offered a Great price on a espresso/ cappuccino maker it is 16 par High pressured, steam nozzle frother , 50 ounce water tank all the good stuff but its a pod machine and the brand of pods only can be ordered online I HEARD it also takes starbucks pods bialetti cappuccino machine and some other brands. The pod slit is side ways so I cant really make my own pods and the perfect pod maker says it doesn't work on high pressured systems. It is really a good machine except for the pod part but i would be stuck with purchasing pods online or from the store. On the other hand I was thinking about the moka express, Mukka express and the bialetti brikka before i was offered the other deal and maybe get a frother separate. What do you think I should do my budget is limited and I don't really like the electric machines I seen at the retail stores.I just want some advice with someone who has one or the other

Let me begin by saying that I am a Bialetti fan. However, I would recommend that you avoid this particular product. I’ve used it about 20 times since I’ve gotten it and only once did I get reasonably equal volumes in the two cups. Usually, it’s about 70%/30%, always favoring one particular side. I’ve tried taking the filter out to see if there were any obstructions, but didn’t see any. I’ve tried heating at different rates but to no avail. Rinsing the top part upside-down under the tap results in equal amounts of water coming out each spout so I know it’s not plugged. Eventually I may try crimping the more productive spout a bit in order to constrict the flow in hopes that that will remedy the problem…
Anyway, I usually end up having to pour from one cup to the other to make them roughly equal volumes which is messy. Tonight, the cups were about 97%/3%, which prompted this review. I’m very, very disappointed, however, I’ll still probably end up buying a Bialetti 3-cup caffetiera to replace it.
this is a fantastic little espresso maker. I second the suggestion of moving one spout over.[...] You’ll get an excellent cuppa. I drink A LOT of coffee. I’ve used various cheaper “home” espresso makers. They all sucked.
I don’t use a wand for steaming. if that’s an issue, this isn’t for you. I’m all about the shots. gimmie gimmie. i’ve used this at least once a day since getting it, about 2 months. I’m still very happy with it. one improvement i might add to mine is a better handle. that little bit of plastic, or what ever it is, gets HOT if you leave it in the middle of the burner. Use it to one side of the burner. aside from that, wonderful device…
We purchased this mini express 3 years ago and use it almost daily, great espresso and great for making a quick Americano. This second one is for one of the kids that had to have her own after using ours when she visits. The product is quick easy to clean and just works over and over again. Just buy it and enjoy.
Got it as a present for my husband. It works well except that it can be messy, it tends to spray coffee over the stovetop. The cups are not always evenly filled and seems to depend on the level you fill the water. The rubber seems to be going, and will need to find a replacement, hopefully not difficult to find. We use this item several times per day.
Message from Bialetti about the gasket:
In this case you would need a “Carded Pack for Aluminum Espresso Makers” in
the 2-cup size. You will find them here:

Love this, though it can be a bit temperamental at times! It def only makes one full mug of coffee though, so I would not be expecting to serve two people at once
You have to be really careful to put it together correctly every time you use it, and watch it like a hawk while on the stove: you need to turn off the heat a few seconds after you hear the click and it starts foaming or it will overflow onto your stove. Sometimes it will spew out of the bottom for no discernable reason but over all it is great! I havent felt the urge to go to starbucks for a latte since I received this. For those unable to purchase a ‘real’ espresso machine at this time due to cost or space issues, this is the way to go.
Okay, I hate to brag… but… I just bought this coffee maker at a garage sale, brand new, in the box, with the gift receipt, for $3.00. I kid you not, and, I had no idea what the price of this little gem was!
Mmm, mm, good cappuccino!
However, I was punished by the gods for putting it in the dishwasher. Uhggg!
I have made bitter, undrinkable brews about 20 times and I am out of patience.
I have followed all the recommendations.
Then I followed all the exceptions and tweakings I saw online.
Results: bitter, undrinkable stuff.
Freshly ground beans — varied the fineness, no help.
More or less water — no help.
More or less milk — no help.
Decaf beans, caffeinated beans — no difference.
Twice it spewed all over my gas cook-top, and I was always careful to screw the top part down firmly and completely.
It took at least 4 minutes if I was careful to have the gas within the area of the bottom of the pot. I think it was very over-brewed.
A pain in the patuti to clean.
Foam very wimpy.
I will give coffee at home just one more try: AeroPress. My friend brought hers over today and she brewed us each a heavenly cup of aromatic, rich, strong, non-bitter coffee. I’ll foam my milk separately if I want that. I just need a reliable, simple way to make one cup and this product doesn’t do it.
This is a good product–when it works. Much of the time it doesn’t. I got a Mukka Express as a gift and was able to make a few cappuccinos, but then the valve stopped working. I returned the product and got a new one. It worked great for nearly a year until the valve broke again, this time during use–scalding coffee sprayed everywhere (into the vent above the stove, on my friend who was at the stove cooking, etc.). I bought a replacement valve from Bialetti, which worked about two thirds of the time (every third cappuccino or so would have no foam, which leaves the capp tasting flat, kind of like a soda or beer that has lost its fizz). I complained to Bialetti and they sent me a new valve at no charge (giving me the impression this happens a lot), but the new valve also only works sporadically. For the amount of coffee and milk I have wasted on bad cappuccinos by now (and on buying cappuccinos because I didn’t have time to keep trying for a good one at home), I could have bought a “real” cappuccino maker that actually works–every time.
I have both the manual Bialetti Mukka Express and the electric Bialetti Mukka Express. I had no problems with the manual model even using soy milk. I happened to come across a new electric model at BBB marked down to $44 and couldn’t pass it up. I have made cappuccino with the electric using coffee that I ground myself using the “finest” setting on the coffee mill. The cappuccino came out perfect every time whether using soy milk or regular milk. I decided to buy pre-ground Starbucks Expresso Roast instead of grinding the beans myself. I noticed immediately that their coffee is not ground as fine as what I normally do myself. Well, the cappuccino was awful. It did not foam at all and not all of the coffee came up from the bottom. I re-ground the Starbucks Expresso coffee through my coffee mill to the finest ground. Guess what! It works now! Make sure you use the finest grounds possible to get this machine to work properly! This probably holds true for the manual machine as well.
